Work, friends, sleep pick three

Work, friends, sleep pick three Remember that time when I was an RA at nerd camp? Heres what I found on my Facebook wall last night from Eric, one of the students from this summer: Devin (another Spectrum 07) and I have been reading A LOT about MIT. She wants to go (a lot), and Im keeping my eyes and ears open. It sounds like all kinds of amazing. ^_^ P.S. Devin wants you to update your blog. So at the request of two of the most awesome high school sophomores around, Im writing a blog post. All right, so thats not the real reason Im posting. (Actually, it is, but I figured youd want something more than the above.) Im blogging because in a true show of academic superskillz, I completed two full problem sets last night. Yes, you read that correctly. I did two whole psets in just under five hours on a MONDAY. And I got to sleep by 1AM, and then I woke up in time to get to my UROP at 10. Eight hours of sleep. SKILLZ, I TELL YOU! Normally, my weeks are not such prime displays of time management. I really do try, though. Ask anyone I schedule my days hour-by-hour, but sometimes I get on my computer to check my mail and somehow spend five hours watching The Office and playing Minesweeper. (I can finish the Expert level in under five minutes! Woo hoo!) This week is different Im going to a concert with some friends tonight, and theres a 5.13 exam on Friday. I refuse to get another 47 on another organic chemistry exam, so I finished the psets early in an attempt to carve out three days of uninterrupted study time. By the way, Im not a double major anymore. More on that in a later post. Also, I didnt want my experience this week to be like that of last week, where at 11 AM on Friday, I was working on my 5.13 pset due at 11:30. Even though that only happened because I spent Thursday night paying attention to #7 on Bens list of 50 things and playing Frisbee on Killian Court at midnight. (Sometimes, you just need to slide into a sprinkler while making an impossible dive for a Frisbee.) (Im just sayin.)

Harry Potters Compassionate Nature Argumentative Essays

In his book, The Philosopher’s Stone, Rowling J.K. shows the world that good things will always triumph versus evil. This book begins with a perfect description of the Dursley’s family who live on Privet Drive. Vernon Dursley, Harry’s uncle is an overweight man, shabby in appearance with a bushy moustache. Petunia, his wife is a thin blonde-haired woman talented in spying on everything. Their obese and totally spoil son Dudley crowns the family. The Dursley’s do not like anything peculiar in life. Petunia has completely ignored her sister Lily Potter who has magical powers. They feel that the Porters are strange and should not be contacted. Harry Potter the main character in the book was orphaned after Lord Voldemort kills his parents. Abandoned by the Dursley’s doorstep, Harry begins a life of hardship in a family that does not want him. This paper reveals the actions of the Dursley’s family versus Harry. It shows how the good will always tr iumph over the evil actions of man. Harry and his cousin are age-mates (both are eleven years old). However, their features are a sharp contrast. Harry is thin with jet green eyes and black hair. His face has a scar on his face that looks like a thin bolt of lightning. His cousin Dudley is fat and looks annoying. The Dursley’s do not want Harry to know anything about his parents’ death, his magical abilities. They lie that his parents died in a road crash. They Dursley’s are evil. They are the only relatives that Harry knows and yet do not tell him the truth. They lock him in his â€Å"bed† a cupboard under the stairs while their son lives in a big bedroom and even has a spare one (Philosopher 7). Any evil that they tend to do to Harry is overshadowed by strange acts of magic. On Dudley’s birthday, he is showered with 36 presents and nothing is given to Harry. The previous year he had 37.When Vernon asks his son about the presents, he complains that they are less and he does not care how big they are† (Philosopher 13). Because this year he has one present less, he throws a tantrum and his parents offer to take him to the zoo with his best friend, Pier. After the neighbor declines to stay with Harry, Uncle Vernon cautions him that if they go to the zoo, no â€Å"funny business† should occur. They want to avoid the magic that happens around Harry all the time. After Aunt Petunia had shaved his hair, it grew overnight back to its initial length. At the zoo, Harry looks at the large Brazilian boa constrictor. He felt like the snake’s life and his are similar. The snake is kept in a glass case, lonely in captivity, away from its natural ecosystem and homeland. Harry felt compassion for the snake; they winked at each other and began a dialogue about its home and breeding. Dudley’s violently pushes Harry to the floor in front of the glass cage. The glass vanishes and the snake slithers out. This snake somehow blocked Harry form further harm since they share a lonely and miserable life: living in cages and with people that they dislike. In the car, Uncle Vernon rebukes Harry for the action. At home, he is cramped into his cage for several hours. Harry only remembers a bright flash of green light and a severely burning pain on his forehead. The following morning, Harry receives letters from unknown people and they focus on his life with the Dursley’s. His uncle tears them and orders him to sleep in Dudley’s extra bedroom. Uncle Vernon wonders how the outside world would have had known the life of Harry. Vernon moves his family together with Harry to shabby places, so that they can avoid the letters. This letters symbolize that people in society are aware of the evil acts that Harry is subjected to by the Dursley’s. The Dursley’s are evil. They treat Harry with indifference while giving their son everything. The Dursley’s refer to Harry as â€Å"the boy.† They treat him â€Å"like a dog that had rolled in something smelly† (Chamber of Secrets 5). They did not want any person in society to know Harry’s special abilities in magic. This is why they prohibit him from knowing anything about the wizard world. Uncle Vernon ignores and dismisses all claims that Harry makes about magic. Vernon even goes as far as blocking Harry’s entry into the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, the letters came in huge numbers and surrounded everyone in the house. After Harry joined the school, he still treats him badly. Dumbeldore knew of Harry’s maltreatment. He said that Harry got out of it without injuries. â€Å"He has known nothing but neglect and cruelty at your hands. He has escaped appalling damage† (Half Blood Prince 55). Harry survives the whole of his life through exercising resiliency. He tries to live his life and continues experiencing the magic although it attracts Uncle Vernon’s venom. In spite of the traumatizing experiences while living with the Dursley’s, he still is determined to succeed in life. At the school, Harry exhibits competency and works hard, gets good grades and even becomes the captain due to his athletic prowess and leadership skills. This illustrates that he is a student who was liked by other students due to his good acts. This shows that even though Harry was subjected to all kinds of abuse, he still did good acts to other people. He established close relationships with Sirius Black, his godfather. He is secure with his girlfriend and treats her well. This shows that even though he was maltreated in his early life, he still has some compassion and tries to do good to others. In this book, Rowling tries to show the world that although many people do evil, the good will always triumph. He also shows the world that revenge has never been a solution to one’s problems but resiliency can indeed be part of the solution. Works Cited Rowling, Jeffrey K. Nursing Leadership Styles Essay - 821 Words

Running head: LEADERSHIP STYLES Leadership Styles Nursing leadership styles have changed over time as leadership theories have developed (Marquis Hutson, 2009). The 1900’s brought about many theories and theorists on leadership and management styles. The new century has also brought new theories and leadership styles to nursing care (Marquis Hutson, 2009). Two different leadership styles, which were first identified in 2004 by a noted scholar named Burns, are transactional and transformational leadership (Marquis Hutson, 2009). Marquis lists leadership roles as decision maker, communicator, evaluator, facilitator, risk taker, mentor, energizer, coach, counselor, teacher, critical thinker, buffer, advocate, visionary, forecaster, influencer, creative problem solver, change agent, diplomat and role model (Marquis Huston, 2009). â€Å"Leaders are in the front, moving forward, taking risks, and challenging the status quo† (Marquis Huston, 2009, p. 33). Common Writing Errors Parallel Construction, Sentence Fragments

Common Writing Errors Parallel Construction, Sentence Fragments In November 2010, InternsOver40, a popular job-search site for older job seekers, published an article entitled Bobby’s Rant, Rave Whatever: Less is More? The second paragraph begins as follows: â€Å"Over the years I have ranted   to many of my close friends  that in my worst day I have more than 98% of the world. Those people who live on less than $68 dollars a month(yes month).† [sic] While I like the sentiment of this article, I am compelled to rant about its writing style.   First, there are small formatting issues like the extra space between â€Å"ranted† and â€Å"to,† and the lack of a space prior to â€Å"(yes month).†Ã‚   That’s just a tiny little rant. Did you Understand That Sentence?   Parallel Construction More notably there’s the sentence, â€Å"In my worst day I have more than 98% of the world.†Ã‚   Do you see the ambiguity here?   Honestly when I first read the sentence I did not understand it.   I thought the author was saying he had in his possession some percentage of the world.   Upon second or third reading, I realized he meant that he had more than does 98% of the world – or that he has more than 98% of the world has. On a basic level, the problem here is parallel construction.   Lack of parallel construction is an issue that plagues many writers, and that takes the sense out of sentences.   In my article about correlative conjunctions, I addressed the issue of parallel construction when using conjunctions such as both and and in a sentence.   If you read that article, you learned that the phrases after the correlative conjunctions â€Å"both† and â€Å"and† must be the same part of speech, e.g. He likes both running and swimming.   The same idea applies here. Take the following sentence.   How would you interpret its meaning? I like coffee more than my husband. Read grammatically, this sentence would imply that given a choice between coffee and her husband, the writer would choose coffee.   And although we might be able to cut corners in our spoken communications, it doesn’t work in writing. Now read: I like coffee more than does my husband. OR I like coffee more than my husband likes it. OR I like coffee more than my husband does. These versions are looking much better for the husband. To write an unambiguous sentence, we need to look at the two things being compared to ensure they are really the things we want to compare! â€Å"I like coffee more than my husband† has nouns (coffee, husband) as the compared objects, so â€Å"coffee† is compared against â€Å"my husband.†Ã‚   â€Å"I like coffee more than does my husband† has verbs as the compared objects (like, does) so we are comparing degrees of the verb â€Å"like.†Ã‚   And â€Å"I like coffee more than my husband likes it† again compares verbs (like, likes). Sentence Fragments You may also have noticed that the last sentence in the InternsOver40 paragraph is not a sentence.   It reads, â€Å"Those people who live on less than $68 dollars a month(yes month).† You can probably spot a sentence fragment when you see one.   Sometimes sentence fragments can be used to stylistic advantage, but I don’t think this particular fragment was effective, especially considering the multitude of other errors in the paragraph. If you are concerned, as I am, about what a major job seeking resource like InternsOver40 is teaching job seekers about how to write, please share your concern with them.   I personally would like to see InternsOver40 post well-written, well-edited articles that will give candidates tools to shine in their written presentation. Do you have a question about how to keep your sentence structure parallel?   Or about whether a sentence is a sentence fragment?   Id love to listen to and answer your questions.   Please share your comments below. Letter Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Letter - Research Paper Example They attacked the city from the weakest point of the walls, but they were called to retreat after fighting for two hours. Anatolian Turk, from Ishak’s army, launched the second attack. They were easy to recognize because they were more organized and had specialized uniforms. They managed to break the attentions of the city’s men by using trumpets and huge cannons to break through the wall. They were the first troop to enter Constantinople, and they managed to massacre most of the army officers who were mostly Christians. This attack was then ended at dawn. Before the city’s soldiers were able to gain order and strength, another troop referred to as Janissaries, which was Mehmet’s favorite troop, launched another attack. They used bullets, missiles, stones, arrows and javelins to attack the Constantinople soldiers. This battle lasted for several hours, which made some of the soldiers give up. During the battle, the Turkish army remembered port Kerkoporta, which Christian soldiers used to attack them. They tried to break the port’s gate, but were stopped by the Christian soldiers. While attempting to capture the city, the Turks were also gaining control of the sea where they placed many warships at the Golden Horn to help siege the capital. These warships supplied more soldiers as a backup. This made the capital soldiers defeated and captured making the Turkish army take complete control of the city. Islam now officially occupied it, and they built beautiful monuments, baths, fountains, aqueducts, palaces, mosques and other public buildings. However, they still allowed the Christians practice their religion, but to use distinguish robes, which could not bear arms. This led to the fall of the

Business Analysis-chipotle Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Business Analysis-chipotle - Essay Example Many of the restaurants owned by the company are located within the large cities where they can easily reach the target clients. Since the target clients are the numerous city dwellers, a large population can be reached. Locations for the various restaurants are normally strategic and within a short reach from various sources of clients. The restaurant at stone town shopping centre is located near a shopping mall and those visiting the mall can easily access the restaurant; hence a great number of the visitors are enticed to get into the restaurant. Additionally, close proximity to public utilities like parking lots ensures that the business clients are able to reach the outlets easily (chipotle.com, 2014). The establishment has over 1600 outlets, which all operate under a single name of chipotle. The company is estimated to have employed about 45000 people working across the various outlets of the organisation in different countries and locations. The fundamental purpose for the existence of the business remains provision of food that is of good quality and value adding to the consumers. The restaurants serve food made using organic ingredients and naturally raised meat. The purpose of providing good quality food is clearly stated in the mission statement of the fast food chain; Food with integrity (chipotle.com, 2014). The organisation has endured a rapid expansion over a short period of time to reach the current number of outlets. Food in the restaurants is normally served in a fast food model that is utilised in ensuring the organisation serves as many customers as possible within the shortest possible time. The type of menu available normally includes food items that could be considered to be snacks under normal setting. The foods have, however, been enhanced with nutritional value to ensure that they meet the expectations of the organization and the customers as well (Seljak, 2009). The food cost for

Personal Statement for College Application

Personal Statement for College Application My College Right after high school, I plan to attend McLennan Community College. The main reason I choose this college is because it is very affordable and its close to home. I want to study Radiology and this school offers a good associates program for this. I would want to earn my bachelors degree from Texas Tech University. Texas Tech has always been a dream school for me, but unfortunately my family does not have the money to support me at that university. Either way Im happy to stay close to my family and go to McLennan Community College. My older siblings encouraged me to choose MCC, they showed me the different programs they offer, scholarship opportunities, and what really impressed me was the University Center they have. McLennan Community College is located in Waco, TX and was established in 1965 by the citizens of McLennan County. The college offers two year associates degrees, technical and vocational courses. The mission of the school is to engage, educate, and enrich the community. MCC has core values that effect all choices, decisions, and actions of the college. The core values are excellence, integrity, innovation, inclusion, collaboration, stewardship, sustainability, and accountability. The University Center at MCC is a partnership with several four-year state universities that offer degree programs on MCCs campus. It offers students the opportunity to earn affordable bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees. MCC also offers many scholarships to incoming students and current students. The top scholarships are the presidential, honors, first generation, and McLennan scholars. They also have some student organizations such as Hispanic Student Association, Student Council, and MCC Womens Leadership Association. The McLennan tartan, the wool fabric with the distinctive plaid pattern of the McLennan clan, is the official college banner. The mascot is the Highlander, a Scottish warrior in battle dress with a sword and shield, they call him Mac. There is baseball, mens basketball and golf, for women there is softball, golf and womens basketball. My first semester at MCC I plan on taking four of the recommended core curriculum which are English 1301, Math 1314, Biology 2401, and Psychology 2301. I have applied to many local scholarships and FASFA. My classes are paid for with the FASFA I receive and if I dont get any scholarships I will have to pay for books and supplies with money from myself. I wish to enter in the Radiology program, but before I want to get the core curriculum classes out of the way first and it helps that I am currently taking GOVT 2306 and ECON 2301. During my first year I want to be very successful so I have a higher chance to get scholarships that MCC offers for the rest of my college career. My second semester at MCC, I want to take four classes from the core curriculum. They are English 1302, GOVT 2305, History 1301, and Speech 1311. I hope by my second semester I have received some financial help besides FASFA. If I havent I might consider finding a job on campus to pay for any extra necessities. After my first year is completed at MCC I would like to take at least one summer class to get it out of the way, it would be Art 1301. To start my second year and third semester off I want to take the last of the core curriculum classes and prerequisites that I need to get into the radiology program. The classes would be History 1302, Philosophy 1301, HPRS 1206, and Biology 2402. During this semester I would start applying for the radiology program after I meet with an advisor and get more information on it. If everything goes well I hope to be admitted into the program for the incoming semester. My fourth semester and first semester in the radiology program I would be taking only three classes. These are required once in the program RADR 1203 Patient Care, RADR 1311 Basic Radiographic Procedures, and RADR 1260 Clinical I Radiologic Technology. In this semester I hope to be academically successful and have earned a few scholarships so my parents dont have to be struggling to put me through college. I would also like to be working in a part time job that pays well enough for a college student. Now that my second year is completed, I would start my fifth semester with next classes in the program. Which are RADR 2301 Intermediate Radiographic Procedures, RADR 1313 Principles of Radiographic Imaging I, RADR 2309 Radiographic Imaging Equipment, and RADR 1261 Clinical II Radiologic Technology. Next in my sixth semester I would be taking four of the required courses. These include RADR 2217 Radiographic Pathology, RADR 2313 Radiation Biology and Protection, RADR 2266 Practicum I, and RADR 2205 Principles of Radiographic Imaging II. After this semester I plan on taking a summer class, RADR 1460 Clinical Medical Radiologic Technology, which would have to be paid from my own pocket. In my last fall semester in 2020 I would be taking the last few classes I need to complete the radiology program. Which are RADR 2233 Advanced Medical Imaging, RADR 2240 Sectional Anatomy for Medical Imaging, RADR 2267 Practicum II, and RADR 2360 Clinical IV Medical Radiologic Technology. There is one last course I would have to take but its not said when its offered but its called RADR 2235 Radiologic Technology Seminar. Hopefully everything goes as plan and I would graduate with an associates degree in science for radiology in December 2020 from McLennan Community College. My next goal is to graduate from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center with my bachelors in Clinical Services Management. I hope to have a good job and be able to pay for it. I would also apply for scholarships they offer or finish school through the University Center at MCC where it could be more affordable. Texas Technical University is located in Lubbock, TX established on 1923. The large university is the only campus in Texas to house an undergraduate university, law school, and medical school at the same location. The university offers degrees in more than 150 courses of study through 13 colleges and has 60 research centers and institutes. Residents of Texas pay an annual total price of $18,156 to attend Texas Tech University on a full time basis. Originally named Texas Technological College, the college opened in 1925 with six buildings and an enrollment of 914. Texas Tech is also offered through the MCC university center. Like many big Universities Texas Tech has many student organizations and way many more scholarships for undergraduates and graduate students. Depending on what job I get or scholarships I receive, I would like to move to Lubbock to enroll in the Clinical Services Management program. Living at a campus is something Ive always wanted to experience but if Im not finically ready doing it through MCC is not a problem for me. I would like to start in the spring semester of 2021 right after graduating MCC in December. The first few classes I would take would be HPHM 4302 Financial Management For Clinical Supervisors, HPHM 4303 Principles of Personnel Management For Clinical Supervisors, HPHM 4306 Marketing Principles and Entrepreneurship, and HPHM 4304 Management of Clinical Support Services in Healthcare Organizations. Once Im at TTU I want to be a fulltime student even in the summer so I could finish quicker. Ill be taking four classes in the summer, which are HPHM 4311 US Healthcare System, HPHM 4313 Community Health Issues, HPHM 4314 Quality Assurance/Risk Management, and HPHM 4317 Statistics For Healthcare Supervisors. All of these are hopefully paid for with financial aide. The next semester I have to take five classes and two of them are case studies. The classes are HPHM 4318 Healthcare Law/Ethics, HPHM 4331 Leadership In Healthcare Organizations, HPHM 4401 Healthcare Management Information Systems, and HPHM 4477, HPHM 4478 Case studies. This would be the end of my required core curriculum at TTU. At Texas Tech in order to graduate with your bachelors you would need to have 12 hours of upper level electives of your choice. They offer Capital Project Design, Organizational Behavior, Foundations Of Managed Care, Issues In Gerontology For Healthcare Managers, Integrated Delivery Systems And Organizational Relationships, Long-Term Care Management, and Regulatory Aspects Of Long Term Care. With this plan I would most likely graduate in the spring of 2022 with my Bachelors In Clinical Services Management from Texas Tech University. After graduating with my bachelors I would be able to work at hospitals, clinics, medical and diagnostic laboratories and be paid more than the radiologist that only has an associates degree. My biggest concern would be the financial part of school. I know FASFA can pay for most of my classes but if I receive no scholarships then I would have to get a loan to help me out. Thats why is very important that I stay on top of my work and have good grades to receive any scholarships I can. McLennan Community College is a great fit for me not only because is it affordable but it is close to home and offers a good plan for my education. The radiology program that MCC offers has been praised by many and for right now it seems to be the career I want to pursue.

The Folly Of Logic, The Freedom Of Truth :: essays research papers

Logic can very often restrain us from recognising the truth when it is presented to us. Allow me to begin by asking a question. What is man? Who are we indeed? We struggle, we grapple, we strain, grasping for truth that is always there, but we feel is out of our reach. We make ourselves prisoners by our own embankment of logic, an instrument that we work too hard. An ox that we send to the field, but provide no water for, driving it on, past exhaustion; a tool that we abuse without having even a miniscule sentiment of remorse. Who are we to think that we can fit our world, our emotions, our lives, our beliefs into neatly packaged little boxes? What right do we have to fit anyone or anything else into our own little spheres we have somehow managed to contrive? Us and our logic! What pharisees we are, what fools we can be! We think we know best; we make our little plans and we analyse our little strategies until there’s nothing left but jargon. We argue our points away until our memory is lost as to what our question was is the first place. Who cares about answers! They won’t help! Answers are of no use. I just want my opinion out there and my voice to be heard. Well, a lot of help that is when everyone is screaming so hard that all becomes numb and meaningless and silent. Just watch then as our individual universes we’ve been able to construct explode into oblivion, leaving us broken, desolate, torn. We are then left begging for love, starving our spirits in desperation, frantically stripping away our own will. What simpletons we can be! Can we not see the truth that has all this time been staring us blatantly in the eyes? Stop grasping, I ask you, be still! Stop bellowing and just be calm! The truth is simple. The truth is bare. We need only to shred those strategies, burn those boxes, and clear the table to see the truth we’ve left buried there, watching us, hoping we will acknowledge it.
